Q. How long should I use the CPAP tube before changing it out?
A. It is recommended that it changes every 3 months. It should be inspected periodically for any damage or wear & tear that could affect therapy. I recommend washing it weekly with mild soap, rinsing well & hanging it to dry.
Q. My mouth is so dry in the morning after using my machine, what can I do to prevent dryness?
A. Increasing humidity would be a typical first step. A dry mouth could be caused by a variety of issues. If you are using a nasal or pillow mask, preventing your mouth from opening during therapy could help. A chin strap or mouth tape could help with this issue. A change to full-face mask may even be necessary. Switching to heated tubing could also help with more humidity in your airway from your device. Maintaining proper hydration is also important, so drinking water helps keep you hydrated.
Q. Since I exhale and inhale through the same mask, am I breathing in exhaled or 'stale' air?
A. All typical CPAP masks have an exhalation port which is where the "exhaled or stale air" carbon dioxide or CO2 is released. The port is an intentional leak placed in an optimal position to ensure you breathe fresh air with every breath.
Q. My average sleep score is in the 70s, but I still wake up feeling tired and have low energy throughout the day. Why is that?
A. Call to speak with an Apria Sleep Coach or a Respiratory Therapist. It could also be helpful to schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss.
