For many of us, medical and health insurance terms are unfamiliar or complex. Our glossaries define some of those terms.

Medicare Part A
The hospital insurance program that covers the cost of medically necessary inpatient hospital care; skilled nursing facility services; care in the home by health agencies; and hospice care. As an entitlement program, it is available without payment of a premium. Beneficiaries/patients are responsible for an initial deductible per spell of illness and coinsurance payment for most covered services.
