		Freedom of Information Act An act established in 1967 as an amendment to the "Public Information" section of the Administrative Procedure Act. The purpose of the act was to reach a workable balance between the public�s right to know and the need of the government to keep information in confidence to the extent necessary without permitting indiscriminate secrecy.
