Septicemia
Septicemia, or blood poisoning, is the presence of bacteria in the blood. Once in the bloodstream, bacteria can produce abscesses throughout the body and in vital organs such as the lungs and heart. This condition is very serious and, if not treated, can result in death. Symptoms may include weakness accompanied by high fever and chills. Septicemia is usually treated with antibiotics.
