Nov. 4--Lackawanna County Judges Terrence R. Nealon and Michael J. Barrasse appeared on track to win re-election to new 10-year terms Tuesday night.
The judges had been concerned that a judicial corruption scandal in neighboring Luzerne County could damage their retention chances.
Both Judge Barrasse, a former Lackawanna County district attorney who specializes in criminal court cases, and Judge Nealon, who has presided mainly over civil court matters, stressed their integrity and efficiency as county court judges.
In his campaign for another term, Judge Barrasse emphasized the treatment courts he implemented to treat and rehabilitate people with drug and alcohol problems.
Judge Nealon, whose father is U.S. District Court Judge William J. Nealon, stressed his extensive courtroom experience as a trial judge who presided over more than 200 trials and his in-depth court opinions, more than 200 of which have been published nationally.
Unofficial results with all of the districts counted:
JUDGE NEALON RETENTION
✓ Yes 31,180
No 7,324
JUDGE BARRASSE RETENTION
✓ Yes 31,438
No 9,201
